EMU Construction Update—Fall 2015

The historic Fishbowl at EMU is open again to the public. The old cafeteria is gone and the remodeled space, including Stabucks, is complete. The remaining vendors—Chipotle, Joe’s Burgers, Subway and Panda Express—will open later this fall.

Exterior improvements are underway at the main entrance to allow access to food service spaces and include new concrete pathways, restoration of the Fishbowl terrace site walls and grading of embankments in preparation for landscaping. The sidewalk on University Street has been replaced as well as the concrete stairs leading up to the west entrance of the Fishbowl.

Inside the renovation, the main lobby is taking shape. Wall framing and drywall are complete with wall finishing well on its way. Storefront is being installed at the east and south walls at the mezzanine levels with light fixtures to follow. After a final clean of the area, floor protection will be removed and the facelift to the lobby will be complete. In the basement, the slab for the new “O” Lounge has been poured. The concrete will be polished and sealed to complete the floor.

At the North Wing of the building, drywall is underway on the ground floor and level 1. On level 2 in the Multifunction Auditorium overhead rough-in is nearing completion to allow for the installation of the studio pipe grid. The grid is expected to show up on site in two weeks. At the mechanical penthouse, the last of the exterior metal panels are being installed.
