How would you feel, what would you change, who would you be if you had three weeks left to live? In this workshop, we will explore how different cultures and religions relate to death and therefore also life. Death is a universal experience; however, how we grieve may differ from place to place, and person to person. Using strategies such as brainstorming, discussion, and art, we will explore our own experiences of death, allowing us to share and celebrate life.

The concept of binary gender (masculinity/femininity) is a socially constructed idea. In other words socially acceptable messages, images, actions, and unspoken rules of what it means to be a man or women come from our experiences, and interactions with others. In this workshop we will discuss and challenge conscious or unconscious messages, beliefs, and biases that influence our perspectives of masculinity. Together we will create a more inclusive, holistic, and healthy perspective to what it means to be a man.

Many people have grown to love and embrace Hip Hop as a way of life. The historical messages of resistance, social justice, and community that first began this movement continue to be present today. However, capitalism and the music industry have moved the culture to a more negative light. Some of the messages in Hip Hop music have contributed to the development of toxic masculinity. In this workshop we will use the four elements of Hip Hop as a metaphor to symbolize how the issue of gender socialization created a type of world that has impacted the way masculinity is perceived.
