May 15

University Campus wide Outdoors

University Day is a campus-wide beautification event that takes place each spring. Hundreds of students, staff, and faculty members gather together to plant flowers, spread bark dust, and participate in small projects on campus that will benefit our local community. We also invite community members to join us! The tradition dates back to 1904 as part of Junior Weekend, when projects included things such as laying the walk to University Hall, followed by a "feast." It has always been a spirited event to prepare the university grounds for commencement ceremonies, and even though it has greatly evolved since 1904, our roots still lie in campus spirit and community service.

GROVE COMMUNITY GARDEN

Come Volunteer at UO's only student-led community garden. Nearly every Sunday from 2-4 pm at the Grove Community Garden (1801 Moss St - a block south of Global Scholars Hall).

Work parties are when we come together to collectively care for the space. We have 22 raised beds that are managed by the overall community to produce food (mainly vegetables) for the student food pantry, the SSC Produce Drop, and of course (and often primarily) those who come each week to volunteer. So, a typical work party may include harvesting food, weeding beds, sowing seeds / transplanting starts, chipping a wood path, etc. There is no signup ahead of time, the only prep beforehand is dressing for the weather / in clothes you don't mind some dirt/sweat on.  Sign up for our newsletter for weekly reminders and updates, and follow us on Instagram too!

Feel free to email grovegarden@uoregon.edu with any questions or inquires.

Music and Lyrics by William Finn Book by Rachel Sheinkin Conceived by Rebecca Feldman Additional Material by Jay Reiss Originally Directed on Broadway by James Lapine Originally produced on Broadway by David Stone, James L. Nederlander, Barbara Whitman, Patrick Catullo Barrington Stage Company, Second Stage Theatre

Directed by Tara Wibrew

An eclectic group of six mid-pubescents vie for the spelling championship of a lifetime. While candidly disclosing hilarious and touching stories from their home lives, the tweens spell their way through a series of (potentially made-up) words, hoping never to hear the soul-crushing, pout-inducing, life un-affirming “ding” of the bell that signals a spelling mistake. Six spellers enter; one speller leaves a champion! At least the losers get a juice box.
