The University of Oregon offers two assessment programs to
help students reevaluate their choices around alcohol and other substances.
CHOICES. This program involves a three-hour session
with members of the UO Substance Abuse Prevention Program (SAPP).
Participants enter information about their drinking behavior into an
online assessment program. Afterwards, they receive a personalized profile
to stimulate discussion and learn information about the risks associated
with alcohol and other drugs. The goals of discussion are to educate about
alcohol and other drug use, further develop personal boundaries, values,
and limitations, and to develop healthy alternatives to drug use.
To be eligible for the Choices
program, students must be referred through University Housing or the Office of
Student Conduct and Community Standards. For more information, call 345-3216.
- BASICS (Brief Alcohol Screening Intervention for
College Students) is a free, non-sanctioned online assessment program available to all students who want to explore their alcohol use and how they might reduce the negative consequences from drinking and/or other drugs. To take the assessment, students must provide some demographic information as well as personal information about their substance use. The assessment takes approximately 20 minutes. Following the assessment, the student receives a personalized profile that includes information about the risks associated with alcohol and other drugs. This program will be available in January 2007.
