The City of Eugene

  • Who?
    • Eugene is Oregon’s third largest city, home to more than 140,000 people. Lane County as a whole has the population of 323,950. It covers approximately 41.5 square miles, with the Willamette River running through the heart of the city.
  • What?
    • The metro area of Eugene is filled with many opportunities. You can bicycle from one end to the other along the river paths, explore the unique Saturday Market or Farmer’s Market, and visit the museums to catch a glimpse of the area’s past, or take in a performance at the acclaimed Hult Center for the Performing arts.
      The performing arts include: The Hult Center for Performing Arts, WOW Hall, and the McDonald Theater.
      Visual Arts & Crafts include: Jacobs Gallery, Lane Arts Council, Maude Kerns Art Center, and Saturday Market.
      Leisure and Recreation include: City Recreation Current Class Offerings, UO Outdoor Program, nearby nature, West Eugene wetlands, city parks, bicycling and the planetarium.
      Festivals include: Art and the Vineyard, Eugene Celebration, Oregon Bach Festival, Oregon Country Fair, and Oregon Festival of American Music (OFAM).
  • When?
    • Eugene’s climate, with an average temperature of 53 degrees, is one of the city’s attractive features. Mild winters, long growing seasons, and few drastic weather changes are characteristic. Normal annual rainfall is 43 inches, which falls mostly between November and June.
  • Where?
    • It takes just over an hour by car to reach Florence, Lane County’s coastal city. Oregon’s third largest ski area is Willamette Pass located approximately 1 hour southeast of Eugene on Highway 58. Depending on snow conditions, Willamette Pass can be open from Thanksgiving to April. Transportation is available from Eugene to Willamette Pass in the winter. The Eugene Airport is conveniently located 15 minutes from downtown Eugene. The Portland Airport is approximately 2 hours from Eugene. Oregon’s only National Park, Crater Lake, is 144 miles from Eugene and takes approximately 3 hours by car.
