:::Summer Commencement Information:::

Application Deadline for Summer Graduation
Undergraduates must apply for graduation through the Registrar's office by July 20, 2008 for their name to appear in the summer Commencement Program. Students may walk in the ceremony even if they do not complete their graduation requirements; however, their name will not appear in the program until all requirements are met and they have applied for graduation and been accepted through the Registrar's Office.

Graduation!
It's time to get ready for the BIG DAY and this is where you'll find the information needed to plan for Summer Commencement, Saturday, August 16, 2008. The completion of your education is a significant event and you should be proud of obtaining your goals. We sincerely hope that everyone supporting you enjoys this exciting day and shares in your accomplishments.

Ceremony Information
The commencement ceremony is a time when the campus community comes together to honor all graduates and their families. Best wishes and greetings are extended in speeches by the Chancellor's office of the Oregon University System, award recipients, a member of the Foundation Board, a member of the Alumni Association, and the University President. Honorary awards and degrees are also given at this time.

Summer Commencement is 10:00 A.M. on Saturday, August 16, on the Memorial Quad. It is open to the public and friends and families are welcome to attend. Tickets are not needed. The ceremony will last until approximately 11:30 A.M. Students may participate in the ceremony whether or not you are graduating this term. If you have not filed for a degree, your name will not appear in the program but will still be called during the ceremony.

Where to Meet and What to Do
Candidates should assemble at the north end of the Memorial Quad no later than 9:30 A.M. Signs will direct you to the designated area. Cards with your name (and adviser's name if a doctoral candidate) are handed out in the assembly area. Make sure you have a card before the procession begins. In addition, photographers will also be handing out cards for you to complete and return.

Degree candidates will line up according to degree earned (all bachelor's candidates, all master's candidates, all Ph.D. candidates). Each group of candidates has a faculty marshal who will lead them to the appropriate seating area. Please remain standing until the Provost asks you to be seated.

During the degree-conferring ceremony, each group of candidates (bachelor's master's, doctoral) rises when identified and receives the conferral statement as a group. When directed, walk to the platform in single file, present your name card to the reader, shake hands with President Frohnmayer, receive your diploma cover from Vice President Brady, return to your seat, and be seated.

At the end of the ceremony, the Platform Party will exit first, followed by the graduates. Your guests can meet you outside the seating area.

In Case of Rain
In the event of rain, the ceremony will be held in McArthur Court and degree candidates will assemble under the covered tennis courts.

Additional Information

Reception
Immediately following the ceremony, an informal reception will be held for new graduates and their families and friends at the north end of the seating area.

Parking
Parking is available on nearby streets and in UO parking lots. The closest university parking lot is on Kincaid Street between 13th and 14th Avenues.

Accessibility Concerns
Seating is available for guests with special mobility needs. There is a drop-off area for guests with disabilities near the Knight Library entrance. Designated parking is available at hooded meters on Kincaid Street between 13th and 15th Avenues. A sign-language interpreter will be available at the ceremony. We recommend that guests with impaired hearing sit in the first few rows.

Be sure to check the Questions and Answers page. It covers most of the questions you will have about graduation.

An area will be set aside at the ceremony for family photographers. We ask that your family use that area for photography so that all may see and enjoy the ceremony.

The UO Bookstore will be open on Saturday, August 16, from 9:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m. for your convenience.

Please remember that alcoholic beverages detract from the dignity of the ceremony and are not allowed on the Memorial Quad.
