Parent and Family Association
The Univeristy of Oregon is committed to partnering with parents and families. One way you can partner with us is to join the Parent and Family Association (PFA). The PFA is a group of Duck families who have made the choice to be active in and engaged with their student's experience. We want to enhance programs and services provided to our parents and family members. You can join the PFA for a one-time membership fee that is collected to provide increased accessibility, services, and events for families.
Throughout the year we invite parents and families to come to campus to enjoy a number of events ranging from Parents' Day Off to Homecoming to family weekends. Visit our parent and families events page for details.
Staying in Touch
For most students, having parents and families to keep in touch with is far more important than they let on. Feeling homesick can happen and staying connected with families is important. We strongly encourage parents to remain active and connected with your student, especially during the first few terms. Send them mail, come for a weekend visit, or surprise them with a care package.
As a parent, you should understand your rights and the rights of your student, as well as the limitations of your involvement in your student's life away from home under the law. The Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA) limits the information that can be shared with you without your student's expressed consent. University staff and faculty will be able to discuss policies and regulations with you in general terms but are unable to provide specific information about your student. Please urge your student to work with staff members when concerns arise and maintain open communication with you to ensure they have a positive living experience. For more information about FERPA visit The Office of the Registrar's privacy website.
