GTFF Strike Update—December 3, 2014

A message from Vice President for Student Life, Dr. Robin Holmes:

As the GTFF strike continues, I wanted to acknowledge that it has been and may continue to be an inconvenience for many of you. Because the timeline for resolution is uncertain, I know some of you are concerned about what will happen if the strike continues into finals week, and may be confused about what might happen in terms of grading of exams and posting of grades. I imagine this is adding stress to an already challenging time. If you would like some help reducing stress, I hope you will take advantage of the Stress Less activities offered this afternoon.

The university is committed to your academic success; you and your classmates are our priority. Each college Dean is working diligently with faculty and administrators to make sure your grades are entered and the expectation is that finals will happen and grades will be entered for this term.

Every department is handling finals and grading in ways that are appropriate for their subject area. Despite these efforts, you may feel that you are getting conflicting information. If that does happen, I apologize. I would urge you to contact the department office if you have specific questions about specific classes. If you have specific concerns about your academic standing or other questions about your academics, please contact an academic advisor at 541-346-3211 or drop by their offices in 364 Oregon Hall.

I respect the rights of GTFs to participate in a strike, and I respect that members of our community have diverse views on the subject. Those values do not stand in the way of our mission to serve students. If you have questions or other concerns, please don't hesitate to contact me at 541-346-1137 or by e-mail at vpsl@uoregon.edu.
