CommUniversity Resource Assistants

Why Have CommUniversity Resource Assistants?

Making the move off campus is an exciting time in the lives of students. At the same time, navigating through issues with landlords and neighbors, addressing safety concerns, and knowing one’s rights and responsibilities can be challenging. Many students do not know what to do or where to turn for assistance.

CommUniversity  Resource Assistants are students who live in student-populated neighborhoods and know first hand the issues students face. They work to make their neighborhood a safer and healthier environment where students can study, have fun and thrive.

What do CommUniversity Resource Assistants do?

The “What To Do and Where To Go” People:

CommUniversity Resource Assistants provide other students information about community living, safety and other issues specific to their neighborhood. They ensure that fellow students know what resources are available on campus and in the community, and where to go when they need help.

Bring People Together and Develop Community:

CommUniversity Resource Assistants plan events that enable students to meet and become acquainted with their neighbors.

Cultivate Student Voice:

Only students really know what it is like to be a student living off-campus, and what students need in order to be successful both academically and personally. As students, CommUniversity Resource Assistants listen to and understand the concerns expressed by fellow students in their neighborhood. The CommUniversity Resource Assistant will act as a liaison between students and the University, assisting with finding solutions to address problems in their neighborhood.

CommUniversity Resource Assistants create forums where students are able to raise questions, discuss issues, find solutions and become agents of change in their community.

Promote Active Citizenship:

While students transition into living off-campus and become members of the Eugene and Springfield communities, they have the opportunity to have a positive impact on their neighborhood and beyond. CommUniversity Resource Assistants plan a service project  in which students can choose to participate and improve the community.
